Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism and AI Content Policy
The Journal of International Spine Society (JISS) maintains the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. All submitted manuscripts are required to be original works that have not been published elsewhere and are not under consideration by another journal. We are committed to ensuring that all content published in JISS adheres to strict ethical guidelines regarding plagiarism and the use of AI-generated material.
1. Plagiarism Screening
All submissions to JISS are subject to a thorough similarity check using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 10% (excluding references, boilerplate text, and commonly used terms) will be rejected or returned to the authors for revision. Self-plagiarism, redundant publication, and any attempt to reuse previous work without proper citation will also be considered a breach of ethical conduct.
2. AI-Generated Content
The use of AI tools in the preparation of manuscripts must be transparent and properly acknowledged. JISS employs AI content detection tools to evaluate the originality of submissions. The proportion of AI-generated content in a manuscript must not exceed 10%. Submissions exceeding this threshold may be rejected, or authors may be asked to revise and resubmit with clarification regarding the use of AI.
Authors are expected to:
-
Disclose any use of AI tools (e.g., for language editing, text generation, or data analysis) in the Methods or Acknowledgments section.
-
Ensure that AI is not used in a way that compromises the scientific validity, originality, or integrity of the work.
3. Consequences of Policy Violation
Manuscripts found to violate these standards will be subject to immediate editorial action, which may include:
-
Rejection of the manuscript.
-
Notification to the corresponding author’s institution.
-
Prohibition from future submissions to JISS for a defined period.
4. Author Responsibility
It is the responsibility of the authors to ensure the authenticity of their work. Authors must confirm, during submission, that their manuscript is original, that appropriate credit has been given to all sources, and that any use of AI tools has been declared.
